Project Overview
Crafted a Dungeons & Dragons inspired Kindle pouch designed to slide directly onto a belt for hands-free Renaissance Faire adventures!
This project was a significant milestone for me: it was my very first wearable item beyond standard hats and scarves, and my first time building a bag using separate panel construction rather than stitching continuously in the round.
Techniques & New Skills Learned
Working through this pattern was an incredible learning experience. I got to experiment with several new stitches and structural techniques:
- Panel Assembly & Surface Slip Stitching: Learned how individual textured panels attach to form a sturdy, structured pouch. When securing the back panel, I practiced surface slip stitching directly onto the back of the piece for clean, hidden seams.
- Crocodile / Scale Stitch: Used on the front face to give the pouch that rugged dragon-hide aesthetic perfect for a fantasy setting.
- Cable Stitch & Post Stitches: Mastered Front Post Treble Crochet (FPtr) and Back Post Double Crochet (BPdc) to construct textured cable panels.
- Functional Belt Loops: Fun little addition to take it to ren faire and make it part of the costume.
Construction Notes & Reflection
Working through the post stitches and scale patterns took focus, but watching the dragon-scale texture come together made every minute worth it. Joining the separate panels with surface slip stitching gave the bag great structure so the Kindle sits snug without sagging under its own weight.
